Rome May 12th, 2002 - International Hung Gar Championship

The traditional forms' tournament "International Hung Gar Championship" has taken place. We will try (with the following lines) to examine what happened this day.

This sporting event is the last result of the work done from many years by our association Ehga Italia, with the cooperation of the International Chiu Chi Ling Association (association of the Granmaster Chiu Chi Ling which participated as guest of honour of demonstration).

A remarkable contribution to the organization of this event, was supplied by the AICS, that collaborates to our initiatives from many years.

The previous day the tournament had a prologue, with the partecipation of most pupils in a Hung Gar stage kept by Granmaster Chiu Chi Ling.

Several Italian athletes took part to the tournament, belonging to the Ehga Italia schools of Rome, Vasto, Bologna, Avellino and foreigners representing several schools coming from Belgium, Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland and USA.

The demonstration has started with a typical ceremony of the Chinese culture, with which the Granmaster Chiu Chi Ling, together with all the other teachers and pupils, showed his respect towards the former masters of the style. The ceremony was followed by the competition. The participating athletes confronted themselves, after being divided into 18 categories according to age, sex and practice level. They were judged in the execution of traditional Hung Gar forms with weapons, free hands or in sparring.

The show was of great interest for the spectators. They saw a wide range of exhibitions, starting from the young and inexpert athletes, to the most expert ones and of a higher level. Most of which were veterans at an international level.

Particular attention goes to the high technical performance of Polish Team and Rodrigues Raiumundo (Netherlands). Besides Mirko Sacchi and Daniele Leoni (Italy) obtained good results in this competition: this event represents, for our school, a sort of generation replacement in the high level competition. This lets hope for the best for the future engagements.

Particular attention goes also to the numerous female athletes. Like their male colleagues, they showed, besides a good athletic preparation, a remarkable determination that allowed them to obtain good results.

The relative award ceremony started at the end of the competitions, during which were rewarded the guest of honour of the demonstration Granmaster Chiu Chi Ling, and the Masters Piotr Osuch (Poland), Klaas Padberg (Netherlands), Martin Sever (Switzerland), Dirk Crokaert (Belgium), Martone Luigi (Italy). An exhibition took place at the end of the competition.

The dutch and the Polish's several pupils presented performances of high technical and athletic level, using weapons for most.

The Italian athletes presented various forms: they started with Gung Ji Fok Foo Kuen, executed by all the Italian athletes. their performance was of big effect, the athletes were moving with a lot of coordination and choice of time, creating an extraordinary visual impact.

Martone Kwoon's athletes then alternated with great performance both with sparring forms, where they showed remarkable grit and power in the application of the movements, and in individual forms, with weapons and free hands.

In the conclusive part we were able to see a high technical level demonstration performed M. Martone Luigi and Granmaster Chiu Chi Ling together with his pupil Richard Paladino.

As the organizers, we are very satisfied for two reasons: first of all for the good results both from the Saturday stage and  from the Sunday competitions, for which we especially want to thank all the affiliated italian teachers. They contributed with their support at the organization of the tournament and their pupils' participation has made possible the good success of this competitions, the first ones organized as Ehga. This competition was the result of the association's hard work madee throught these years, to which our school contributed primarily to its creation in 1998.
