Rome December 1st, 2002 - Dragon Cup
JFGKF (Jun Fan Gung Fu Kick Boxing Federation) organized Dragon Cup, with Forms and Fighting Categories.
Our school was invited some days before, so we would like to write something about the event: with great pleasure we can talk about a successful event.
Invited directly by Sifu Alessandro Colonnese, we arrived to the Colle La Salle Sporting Centre situated in Via dell'Imbrecciato 181, a wide organized and friendly building. From 8am to 10am the organization did weight controls for those athlets who will fight. Only after a little delay, the opening ceremony began... Tournament starts! Many people came to this event. All the schools formed a line and salute the audience. The morning was reserved to the young pupils' Categories (Forms and Fighting). The youngest pupils of Sifu Liberato Mirenna performed a little nice exhibition, showing a good athletical preparation. Then the prize ceremony. After lunch break, athletes participated in all other fighting Categories (Sanda, Light Sanda and Traditional) and Forms (Free Hands, Long and Short Weapons). We want to focus the attention on the protections used during the matches: in each Category pupils were well protected. Unfortunately, there were few women in the fighting Categories, while they showed a good prepation in the Forms. In our opinion, the strongest athletes were in the traditional fighting (in fact in this Category there was the Best Fighter of the Tournament) and in the Advanced Male Seniores Form Categories. In the first case we saw good fights, with a great technical level, but we cannot say the same for the Sanda Categories, where pupils fought without a good technique. This fight is point break: judge divided pupils after any hit. Pupils were forced to use faster movements. 
Universitā delle Arti Marziali and Martone Kwoon had great performaces, conquering all the places on the podium. Martone Kwoon put their pupils on the first and second place in the Hands Free Form Category, and the first place both in the Short and Long Weapons Form Categories. It wasn't easy and sometimes judges needed a play-off because of same score. We have to repeat a good event, but there was a big mistake: pupils praticed different Kung Fu styles. In our opinion it was impossible to judge correctly. 
In the end audience saw the last part of Fighting Categoris, where Bastianelli
Davide conquered the first place in Sanda Seniores cat. 65-70Kg, unfortunately, because his opponent retired.
We would like to thank particularly Sifu Alessandro Cossu (in the picture) of KTS Mantis School who participated in all the events, supporting our pupils.
