Rome February 5th, 2003 - Chinese New Years's Day - Protomoteca Hall
Rome - 5th of February 2003 - Celebrations for the Chinese New Year's Day (Spring Party- Goat's Year) have taken place
in Protomoteca's Hall (Campidoglio). The event was organized by Rome's Council, under the patronage of Mayor Walter Veltroni.
Italy-China Association and Mrs. Vittoria Mancini invited us to take part in the event.
In the afternoon, we arrived to the Campidoglio. We met the event's organizers and Scuola del Fiume's pupils. They exhibit in with us. At 3.00pm we went to the main square to see the Lion Dance performed by Scuola del Fiume. Their performance was remarkable. They involved the many children and adults present at their performance. There were many people there to see the parade.  In the end we took some photographs. Then we moved to Protomoteca's Hall. Entering in the hall was a little bit difficult,
since there were many people present. After few moments, everyone settled down and our exhibition started.
Scuola del Fiume performed Modern Wushu's forms, contrary to us: we exhibited in Traditional Kung Fu. Present people were very interested to the event. Sifu Luigi Martone - member of EHGA-Italia Association and in cooperation with the International Chiu Chi Ling Kung Fu Association - and Martone Kwoon's pupils (Migliuri Serena, Sacchi Mirko, Leoni Daniele) performed single and sparring forms, also with weapons.  After our performance followed a dance and music exhibition of the Artistic Company of Tianjin of the future childhood.
In the end, Italy-China Association offered us traditional chinese food to celebrate New Year's Day.
Probably, Mrs Frank Eckert Coen (adviser delegated from the Mayor to the Multiethnic policies) explained us well, the real Chinese New Year's Day feelings: "New Year's Day is the most important holiday for Chinese people. It belongs to the millenary tradition and expresses the real rural civilization. Since December, people decorated their houses with happy and lucky images and ideograms. During this period, people offer something as a sacrifice to Kitchen's God. The most important ceremony is the richest dinner in the Chuxi's evening.  This party represents a moment of familiar meeting and it is symbolized by the vitality and prosperity colour red:
people exchange gifts, wishes and money. Many shows are organized for children. This is the year of the 'goat': a modest,
not ambitious and not noisy year like the dragon's and horse's one. Still we hope it will be a fantastic one: otherwise,
why should several Chinese ideograms of prosperity and goodness include the goat?"
