Grandmaster Chiu Kow
Grandmaster Chiu Kao was born in Kwantung country, from a family of
doctors. When he was 9, with his uncle, he moved to Singapore, to work in
the mines.
He
begins here the practice of the Hung
Kuen under the guidance of Master Jue Juk Wing
(Wong Fei Hung's pupil). From this moment Hung Gar will be, in his life,
his only study of Kung Fu. When he is still young, he goes to Hong Kong where he continues the study of Hung Ga with the Master Lam Sai Wing. Chiu Kao opens many schools in Hong Kong where, besides teaching the Hung Kuen, he exercises the medical profession (Chinese medicine). His study was placed in a poor zone of town and often he cured his customers free of charge. Chiu Kao also had the reputation of defender of the wek and for this reason he became a hero of the road, feared by the criminals.

During the Second World War Master went back to live in Kwantung and he exercised here to Chinese young people, how to fight against the Japanese invaders. When the war finished, he come back to Hong Kong and retook the teaching of the Hung Kuen. During the 1950s he was often invited in China to take part in some competitions, obtaining excellent results. In 1956 he was invited in Kwantung for a big tournament organized by a prestigious association of Kung Fu. He was classified at the first place both in the free hands form and with weapons (broadsword). In 1957 he went to Peking, where an important tournament had taken place. He was classified at second place with tiger and crane form (Chiu Kao was more than 60 years old!)
